Keeping Your Cool During the Busy Holiday Season
The winter holiday season is always busy, hectic and can be stressful. Throw a worldwide health pandemic and all the changes happening around us into the mix, and stress levels are understandably going through the roof!
Though this holiday season won't look like most, we can still enjoy it (and make the best of what we've got). And, in order to do that, we need to reduce our stress so we can relax and focus on the positives!
Regardless of what holidays you celebrate, you likely have some gifts to buy for loved ones, holiday decor to shop for, celebrations and dinners to plan for, whether they are small in-person gatherings or virtual! This year has been a tough one for many, so we at Wedderspoon want to share some tips to help you keep your cool, get all your to-do-list items checked off, and enjoy this abnormal holiday season as much as possible.
Plan Ahead and Be Strategic With Your Time
One minute it's November and you're looking forward to Thanksgiving, and then you blink and it's the end of December. Time really flies during the holiday season, so it's best to plan ahead as much as you can so that you stay on top of the things you need to do and aren't scrambling.
If you will be gift shopping for friends and family, make a shopping list and shop early. Keep track of what you've got and check off your loved ones as you finish shopping for them so you can stay organized and make sure you don't miss anyone!
The same strategy goes for shopping for holiday celebrations and get togethers. Keep track of your plans and what you need to shop for and cook, bake, or put together for each of them. Shop ahead and update your list so you ensure you are prepared and not scrambling the morning of!
It's also a good idea to map out your days and errands so that you make the most of your time. Rather than zig zag around town going back and forth, map out where you need to go and be strategic about it. Use your lists so that you get everything you need from each store in one trip and don't end up having to go back multiple times.
Holiday shopping and dealing with crowds, lines and traffic can be exhausting! Keep snacks and water in your purse or car so that you can re-energize on long, errand-filled days. Wedderspoon Manuka Honey On The Go is a great item to keep on hand. They provide a quick boost of energy, take up hardly any space and don't need to be refrigerated.
Eat Well, Stay Well
Even though you're likely very busy this season, it's important to make sure you and your family are eating well. Regularly eating balanced and nutritious meals is not only important for your short and long term health. Getting the nutrients you need will help your body stay energized during this hectic time.
The best way to ensure that you are eating well is to plan your meals ahead and/or meal prep. When the work or school day ends and you don't know what to make for dinner, you are likely to choose something quick and easy, and perhaps, not very healthy. Set aside a time each week to plan your meals out so that when it's time to cook, you have a healthy and filling meal in mind. Planning ahead also makes grocery shopping easier! If you're short on time, consider trying one of the many grocery delivery services available.
We have many healthy recipes on our website. You can find meal ideas that fit all types of diets and are perfect for any occasion. We update our recipe section regularly so check back often!
Give Your Body That Extra Boost it Needs
In addition to regularly eating nutritious meals, it's also a good idea to give your body the extra boosts it needs to stay healthy and energized. You may want to consider adding vitamins and supplements into your routine, like Wedderspoon Manuka Honey Immunity Gummies. Wellness and energy smoothies and tonics or a daily shot of Apple Cider Vinegar are some other ways to give your body that extra boost so that you can stay well throughout the season.
Stay in tune with your body so that if and when you do start to feel a little under the weather, you can tackle it head on. Our Manuka Honey Drops and Propolis and Manuka Honey Throat Spray will soothe a sore throat and have immune-supporting properties. These are must-have items in the winter!
Relax and Avoid Burnout, and Don't Feel Pressured to Do It All
Keeping your cool and enjoying the holidays starts with taking care of yourself. We know you likely have a lot of running around to do and a calendar full of activities, but, it's important to also pencil in time for yourself to relax. Whether that looks like wrapping up the night and going to bed an hour early every night, a Sunday self-care ritual, or, setting aside one or two afternoons a week which you can dedicate to relaxing, it's vital that you make time to unwind so that you avoid burnout, especially in a year like this!
The holiday season is about spending time with others and doing and giving, but, make sure you don't forget about yourself! Make time to do things that you enjoy and find relaxing.
There is often a lot of pressure surrounding the holiday season. Pressure to have the most decorated home on the block, pressure to take the perfect winter family portraits, pressure to send a greeting card to everyone you know, pressure to get the perfect gifts....the list of things that you feel pressure about likely goes on and on. This year, consider giving yourself a break. Don't stress yourself out over perfectly coordinating the wrapping paper and bows you use to wrap gifts. Leave one or two of the holiday decoration bins in the attic and don't drive yourself nuts over decorating every inch. Of course, if this sort of thing is therapeutic to you and you genuinely enjoy it, then go for it! But, if you are doing it all out of pressure, please don't feel bad about taking it down a notch. After all, these things should be enjoyable, not stressful!
Stay in Touch
As humans, we crave connection. It's natural! The winter holiday season ordinarily involves many gatherings of friends and family. Unfortunately, this year, that's not the case. During an already stressful year, the lack of time spent with loved ones can be especially tough.
However, just because you can't see each other in person doesn't mean you can't stay in touch. This is the 21st century, after all! Staying in touch with your loved ones and having the opportunity to chat, catch up and even discuss how you're feeling can help reduce stress. From virtual breakfast dates or happy hours, to Zoom game nights and virtual holiday dinners, we are thankful for all the ways technology enables us to connect and stay in touch - we just have to commit to making it happen!
