You may have recently read about Wedderspoon’s new partnership with olympian soccer player Ali Riley, and if not…you can read about it here! We’re excited to share one of the first projects we have worked on together. We sat down with Ali and talked to her about her favorite recipes - one of them being her classic Post-Game Smoothie. As a professional athlete, Ali is the first to understand the importance of refueling your body after a tough and energy-draining game. It’s important to replenish your body with essential nutrients and hydration after a practice, workout or game to ensure you are feeling good, both on and off the field. hHer go-to smoothie after a game or workout is a twist on the classic strawberry banana smoothie you’ve likely made before.
Ali’s version of this smoothie has a couple extra ingredients in addition to the usual strawberries and banana. Her version calls for coconut water, Manuka Honey and dehydrated strawberries as well. The addition of coconut water means that this smoothie is extra hydrating. Coconut water also has antioxident properties and is full of vitamins and minerals. Additionally, it’s antimicrobial properties are thought to be good for the skin, which is especially helpful for anyone who is getting a sweat in, like Ali! Ali adds Wedderspoon Manuka Honey to her smoothie not just for the sweetness but because it is a natural source of energy and it posses anti-inflammatory properties. Manuka Honey also supports gut health and immunity. Someone like Ali, who is always on the go, surely benefits from this.
The final and perhaps most creative ingredient in this smoothie is the dehydrated strawberries used as a garnish. Let’s be real, the prettier a drink, the better it tastes. We love the special touch of adding a cute (and delicious) garnish.
This smoothie recipe is not just for the sports pros like Ali, though. It’s nutritious, delicious and easy to prepare.
