Commitment to Clean: Glyphosate-Free Manuka Honey

Commitment to Clean: Glyphosate-Free Manuka Honey

We strongly believe Manuka Honey is best enjoyed in its cleanest, most natural state. It’s perfect the way it is, created by mother nature, and authentically sourced from the lush fields of New Zealand.  Here at Wedderspoon, this is our philosophy and that’s why we take our certification as Glyphosate Residue Free seriously. We are proud to meet the Standard Certification from The Detox Project

What Exactly is Glyphosate?

Glyphosate is an ingredient found in many herbicides, including Roundup. It’s considered harmful to both humans and the environment. It’s thought to cause severe health problems including cancer and endocrine disruption, among others. Glyphosate, though meant to kill weeds, also kills other plants and wildlife. It can get into soil and water sources, causing long term and widespread negative impact. Long story short, it’s not something you want on your food or in your body.

The Wedderspoon Commitment to Clean Products

If you’re a fan of Wedderspoon Manuka Honey, you are likely to consider yourself health-conscious. It’s no secret that we at Team Wedderspoon consider ourselves health-conscious as well, and we are committed to providing the most authentic, natural Manuka Honey and Manuka Honey-based products to our customers. We take pride in offering the most pure Manuka Honey, free of all the “bad stuff” you don’t want to consume.

Wedderspoon Manuka Honey is produced only in New Zealand, where our hard working honey bees forage free-range style and feast on the nectar of wild Manuka blossoms. However, we understand that you, as a health-conscious consumer, may still have questions about possible pesticide creep and cross contamination of chemicals like Glyphosate, which has infiltrated areas of the modern food system. We understand the importance of knowing exactly where the food and products you consume come from and the need to have confidence and trust in the brands you know and love. This is why we have become fully certified Glyphosate Residue Free, meeting the Standard of Certification from The Detox Project, as mentioned above. This certification “verifies that your product does not contain the World’s most used herbicide down to government-recognized limits of detection.” We are proud to be able to say this about all Wedderspoon products.

But, Glyphosate is not the only nasty chemical we keep out of our products! We conduct annual testing for 292 different pesticides in order to ensure our Manuka Honey is the absolute purest and cleanest. We are pleased to conduct this extensive testing which vets the quality of our products. Wedderspoon has the highest level of food safety certification in the world.

Taking Care of our Honey Bee Family

It goes without saying that our liquid gold is all thanks to our amazing team of honey bees, which we consider part of the Wedderspoon family. The safety and wellbeing of our honey bees is of utmost importance to us. Our expert beekeepers are ever so gentle when harvesting honey and interacting with the honeybees, disturbing them as little as possible. So of course, we do all we can to ensure they are not harmed by anything, like Glyphosate and other pesticides.

Authentic Manuka Honey

Not only is our Manuka Honey certified Glyphosate Residue Free, it’s also guaranteed authentic according to the only global standard for Manuka Honey, created by the New Zealand Government (Ministry for Primary Industries, or MPII for short). Did you know that prior to 2018, there was not a single standard for Manuka Honey? Because of this, misinformation and confusion around identifying authentic Manuka Honey was common. However, since the MPI standard was created, all honeys labeled as “Manuka” and exported from New Zealand are now required to provide their test results to show they meet the MPI Manuka Honey standards for each and every batch that is shipped.

When purchasing Manuka Honey, look for the following on the packaging to ensure you are purchasing pure, real Manuka Honey.

  • ”Packed in New Zealand”
  • The Fernmark Seal
  • ”Raw”

We hope this information makes you feel confident in our brand and product. We are proud of our Manuka Honey and the ability to deliver the freshest product to your home, all the way from our honey bee hives in New Zealand.
