From Hive to Home: Celebrating 20 Years of Quality & Sustainability

There’s something truly special about opening a jar of Wedderspoon Manuka honey. The sweet aroma and creamy texture taking you straight from the wild hills of New Zealand to your morning oatmeal or a warm cup of tea.

For us at Wedderspoon, it’s all about two things: top-notch quality and caring for our planet, and the bees that make it all possible.

As we celebrate our 20-year anniversary, that commitment to quality has never changed. For two decades, it’s what has made Wedderspoon unique, and what continues to earn the trust of families around the world.

Rooted in New Zealand’s Bee‑First Ecology

Our Manuka honey isn’t just made in New Zealand; it comes from New Zealand. Our hives sit on rolling hills near Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by mountain ranges and a landscape where bees thrive.

We are proud stewards of New Zealand’s 150‑year apiary tradition, and our master beekeepers champion a sustainable, bee‑first ecology.

We harvest gently so our pollinators can do what they do best. This way, our bees have plenty of natural forage and aren’t stressed by over-harvesting or exposure to synthetic chemicals.

Keeping It Raw, Pure and Tested

Quality starts in the hive and continues through every step of production. Our honey is kept raw and carefully nurtured in New Zealand, never pasteurized, and gently creamed so its natural enzymes and micronutrients stay intact. Each batch is triple‑filtered to deliver the rich, creamy honey you love, exceeding New Zealand’s Manuka honey standards.

Before any jar leaves our facilities, it undergoes independent laboratory testing to confirm it meets the strict scientific standards set by the Ministry for Primary Industries. We were the first Manuka honey facility to earn Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification for both food safety and food quality.

Our MGO methodology goes even further: it measures five holistic markers of genuine Manuka honey and ensures each batch is straight from the Manuka bush and right to your home. We partner with leading researchers who study the unique properties of Manuka honey, including its MGO content. Their work helps validate the science behind our honey, so you can feel confident knowing it’s backed by research.

Quality also means keeping unwanted chemicals out. Every Wedderspoon Manuka honey is Non‑GMO Project verified, and we test to ensure it’s free of antibiotics, pesticides and glyphosate.

Organic Practices

We’re proud to offer USDA Certified Organic Manuka honey, harvested with care to protect pollinators and preserve the integrity of nature’s most powerful superfood.

  • Hives are in untouched New Zealand landscapes, with no pesticides or herbicides within 3km.

  • Bees thrive on their own honey; no substitutes allowed.

  • Free from antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic miticides.

  • Natural organic acids (like formic and oxalic) are used to manage pests.

  • Clean water sources and pollen-rich native plants support bee health.

  • Honey is processed under strict temperature limits to preserve nutrients.

  • Certified organic with yearly audits and full traceability.

  • Royalties to landowners help restore farmland to native bush, boosting biodiversity.

Why It Matters

Choosing Wedderspoon isn’t just about taste; it’s about supporting a brand that truly cares. From bee welfare and sustainable farming to our uncompromising quality standards, every jar reflects our promise to protect the planet and preserve the magic of Manuka for generations to come.

Looking Ahead: The Next 20 Years and Beyond

As we celebrate this milestone, we are reflecting on the journey that brought us here and the people who made it possible.

Our story began in New Zealand’s hives, and that is where it always leads back to: simple, honest ingredients and a belief that great things take time. Those same values will guide us into the next chapter as we continue to craft the Manuka honey you know and love.
